The history of some houses in the parish
The publication of the two books
on the parish has made us aware of how little we know of the history of
our homes. Some of them trace their history back to the
Vikings
who came to Cumbria in the 9th and 10th Centuries. The parish has many
names derived from Old Norse words.
We decided that we needed to
research more of our history, and so came about our present project,
“Rediscovering Our Past”, which we are pursuing with the help of a
grant from Cumbria Fells and Dales, the local branch of RDPE. We hope
that this project will begin in the autumn of 2010.
